Born and raised in Sudbury, Catherine Coe has been employed as a funeral director at Lougheed's Ltd. since 1994. She is extremely generous with her volunteer time, and is a past-president and a former secretary of the Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers. She has volunteered for numerous good causes including her church, Easter Seals, and the United Way.
Q: What motivates you?
A: Challenges. Someone once told me you should challenge yourself everyday. Whether that is being a funeral director, a Rotarian, or running for diabetes.
Q: If you could meet anyone in the world who would it be?
A: Mother Teresa is the epitome of service above self. For more than 45 years, she ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned and dying. I always try to remember her quote, "Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love."
Q: What do you enjoy about living in Northern Ontario?
A: I'm proud to be part of our community. The only thing I wanted to do following graduation was to return to Sudbury. It may not have the excitement of the big city, but it does have great people and the beautiful outdoors.
Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?
A: I always thought I would be a teacher. In my senior year of high school after a death in the family and the suggestion and urging from my grandfather Gene Coe, I decided to become a funeral director.
Q: What makes you happy?
A: Doing a good job. I grew up with family and mentors who taught me about hard work. In my business, when I have done a good job, I have made someone's grief a little lighter.
